Derby Dozen - Case Studies
I attended Heanor Gate Science College, where my interest in psychology developed during my A-Level studies. This led me to study Psychology (BSc) at University of Lincoln, graduating with a 2:1 degree.
Following university, I spent three years supporting children with special educational needs, helping them with their learning, emotional regulation, and sensory needs, before moving into a wellbeing advisor role in a secondary school.
These experiences strengthened my passion for supporting young people and inspired me to become a teacher. I completed a one-year SCITT programme and now teach in a primary school, having taught both Year 1/2 and Year 3/4.
I find teaching rewarding and enjoy helping children develop both academically and personally.
In the future, I hope to combine my teaching experience with my background in wellbeing and SEN to further support children in reaching their full potential. Potential career pathways include becoming a SENCO within a school or pursuing further training to become an educational psychologist.
