Climate and Biodiversity Support for Schools
Support for schools
24/10/2025
Derby City schools, nurseries and colleges can now access a powerful package of free support to help them take action on climate change and biodiversity — while saving money, enriching learning and improving school environments.
These national programmes work together to help education settings reduce their carbon footprint, increase green space, and prepare pupils with the knowledge and skills needed for a sustainable future.
How Your School Can Get Involved
1. Join the Let’s Go Zero campaign
A national initiative supporting all schools, nurseries and colleges to become zero carbon by 2030. By signing up, your school gains access to free expert advice from Climate Action Advisors who can help you:
Create and deliver a Climate Action Plan
Improve energy efficiency and sustainability
Access funding opportunities and partner organisations
Embed sustainability into learning and school culture

2. Join the National Education Nature Park
Transform your school site from grey to green while embedding nature and climate education into your curriculum. The Nature Park helps young people connect with nature, collect real scientific data, and contribute to national biodiversity goals.
Schools can also apply for £5,000 Nature Park grants to enhance biodiversity on their sites — available until 11 February 2025.

3. Work with or Become a Climate Ambassador
The Climate Ambassadors Scheme links schools with volunteer experts who can offer advice and support on sustainability projects. Ambassadors can help you start or strengthen your Climate Action Plan, involve pupils in planning, and take practical steps on energy, nature, and green careers.
You can also volunteer as a Climate Ambassador, offering your expertise for one or more days a year to help local schools.
